Not because WordPress is bad. It isn’t. It is powerful, flexible and very widely used. The question is whether your business genuinely needs all of that power sitting behind the scenes.

What is WordPress?

If your website needs frequent updates, multiple users, lots of articles, complex ecommerce or specialist functionality, WordPress can make a lot of sense.

Because static websites do not need to query a database every time someone visits a page, they are usually very quick. There is simply less happening in the background.

With no database, no WordPress login area and no collection of plugins to maintain, there are fewer moving parts and fewer things to go wrong.

WordPress may be the better option if you need:

  • multiple people managing the website
  • advanced ecommerce

Which do I recommend?

It depends.

If I thought WordPress was genuinely the best solution for your business, I would say so.

But for many small businesses, a bespoke static website offers everything they need without the extra maintenance that often comes with WordPress.

It can be fast, secure, easy to manage and designed around your business rather than the limitations of a theme.

Final thoughts

Your customers are not judging your website by the software behind it.

They care whether it loads quickly, looks professional, works properly on their phone and gives them confidence in your business.

Whether that is achieved with static HTML or WordPress is almost beside the point.

Choose the solution that fits your business, not the one that happens to be the loudest on YouTube.
